Good thing I went to Beaumont Tower. Good thing I walked the skinny, turning staircase to the top. Good thing I was sitting in a softly sunlit room in an old folding chair watching Ray McLellan play the carillon to north campus. If I had not done this, I never would have known how the bells at the tower rang their melodies.

Traveling is enjoyable for me, and I’ve likely traveled a little more than most people. I really love it, despite slight anxiety while on the airplane, and will jump at any chance to globetrot.

How do you decide what political wing you would prefer to represent? Some people favor a certain political disposition instilled in them as a child by their parents. Others do their homework and use their own moral compass to help navigate where they stand.

At first glance, it becomes rather ridiculous that some of these things would be grouped together, let alone all of them. What these items have in common, however, is that they are all symbols. What each symbol means is a question that varies from social group to social group around the world.

In this country, we tend to see two sides represented on an issue. For example, the battle over legalizing marijuana has those for and against, but there are more than two sides. I, for one, am part of a different side to that issue — one that doesn’t really care one way or another.
Dr. Drew Pinsky, the doctor who hosted the radio and television shows “Loveline,” “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew,” hosted a discussion on Nov. 23, 2009, at Wharton Center. Thanks to the MSU Residence Halls Association, Pinsky ran an open dialogue with the audience about topics such as stress, relationships and addictions.
Just ask any of the students at MSU what they think about equal access for gays and lesbians to jobs, housing, government benefits and more. They’ll most likely tell you they’re in favor of them. And why not? College students seem to be more understanding and open to change than generations before them. Ask their opinion on same-sex marriage, however, and that’s where opinions radically get divided.
Michigan is my home state. As someone from Michigan, I’ve come to accept the saying that there are two seasons: construction and winter. Weirdly enough, as time goes on, I’ve become increasingly disenchanted with the latter.
