The MSU gymnastics team built on the momentum of its first win of the season last weekend and saw improvements on the event that has troubled the Spartans the most in their 193.450-188.350 win over Southeastern Missouri State tonight at Jenison Field House.

The Spartans (2-2 overall) scored 47.950 on the beam, their highest mark of the season so far. Sophomore Alex Pace’s score of 9.775 was good enough for top honors on beam as four Spartans recorded higher scores than any Redhawk gymnast.

Sophomore Dani Levy took the top spot in the floor rotation with a score of 9.850, followed by senior Jackie Berg, who scored 9.800 and freshman Ashley Noll, who took second with a score of 9.700.

On vault, the Spartans gave a dominating performance as they took the top five spots in that event. Sophomore Taira Neal won first place with a score of 9.825 while senior Alyssa Brennan and Noll tied for second place with scores of 9.750.

MSU also took all top three spots in the uneven parallel bars, led by senior Selina Rodriguez and freshman Alina Cartwright who finished with 9.775. Neal rounded out the top three with a score of 9.700.

The Spartans return to Jenison Field House next Saturday for their meet against Pittsburgh.
