Marissa Mykines has a knack for breaking the hearts of the MSU women’s soccer team.
After her double-overtime goal defeated the Spartans earlier this season, the Illinois forward ended MSU’s Big Ten tournament in a similar fashion on the game’s lone goal in overtime, 1-0. The Big Ten tournament ended with the No. 2 seeded Fighting Illini beating No. 1 seed Penn State on Sunday.
The loss ends senior goalkeeper Jill Flietstra’s shutout streak, as she blanked Ohio State and Northwestern to end the regular season and shut down Iowa in the tournament Wednesday.
With the loss, the Big Ten season done for the Spartans, and the team now awaits the potential call to join the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, which will be announced today at ncaa.com.
