COGS still accepting event funding applications

November 9, 2011

The Council of Graduate Students, or COGS, still is accepting applications for event funding for graduate student organizations, or GSOs, for the remainder of the semester.

At the third full council meeting of the year Wednesday night in the Radiology Building, COGS Treasurer Shannon Demlow said more than half of the funding allocated for graduate student events still is available for event funding for GSOs. COGS allocated nearly $13,000 to fund events and $5,500 of it has been used.

Demlow said if there is money left over at the end of the semester, it could be used as rollover funds for graduate student events next semester.

COGS President Stefan Fletcher also said in the past, the executive board has recommended reallocating the remaining funds to other areas in the budget.

GSOs interested in holding an event this semester can apply for COGS funding by Nov. 23.

COGS also is partnering with the International Students Association to provide a Thanksgiving meal for MSU community members later this month to “bridge the gap” between domestic and international students, International Students Association President Zuleikha Zadran said.

The dinner will be held on Nov. 23 at the Spartan Village Community Center, 1460 Middlevale Road.

Zadran said more than 400 students attended the dinner last year and she expects to see about 500 this year.

Additionally, a run supporting the renovation of the now-vacant Chittenden Hall, previously scheduled for this month, has been pushed back to March 2012.

The “Get Chitt Done” 5-km run will follow a route on campus, tentatively beginning and ending at Chittenden Hall. The run will raise funds and awareness for graduate student issues, including the effort to renovate Chittenden Hall into a graduate student center.
