After numerous complaints and car accidents involving deer, East Lansing residents are being surveyed to identify whether the city has a deer overpopulation, according to a press release from the city.
The number of vehicle accidents involving deer has more than doubled in East Lansing in the past three years, from 16 in 2008 to 43 in 2011, according to the East Lansing Police Department.
Residents, especially in the Red Cedar Neighborhood, have reported problems with the deer population. Complaints also have been filed with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
City officials will use information from the survey to determine what actions, if any, will be taken to deal with the deer population.
