April 19, 2011

For the third week in a row, MSU lays claim to Boat of the Week honors in Big Ten women’s rowing, as the Spartans’ second varsity eight was given the award this week. The MSU varsity eight earned Boat of the Week in the previous two weeks.

The No. 8 Spartans won the award by knocking off three ranked opponents last weekend on Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va., including host and No. 2 Virginia. In the other two races, MSU defeated No. 3 USC and No. 18 Texas.

Spartans competing in the second eight boat are senior coxswain Alyse Egner, juniors Nikki Bade, Michelle Sosa, Bree Walkowiak, Jocelyn Smith and Brianna Lakanen, sophomore Shelby Motoligin, freshman Hannah Champ and senior Clare Vandelinder.
