MSU hockey defenseman receives MIP

Ice hockey freshman defenseman Jake Chelios was issued a citation for minor in possession of alcohol Thursday morning.

Chelios is 20 years old and was issued the ticket at 2:29 a.m. for misdemeanor person under 21 purchasing, consuming or possessing alcohol.

He will appear in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court before Judge Richard Ball for his arraignment next Monday.

During the 2010-11 season, Chelios totaled eight goals and six assists in 37 games. Chelios is the son of former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios and his brother, Dean, a sophomore at MSU, plays forward for the ice hockey team.
