Trustees extend contracts of Izzo, Merchant, Comley

The contracts of MSU men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo, women’s basketball coach Suzy Merchant and hockey coach Rick Comley have been extended, the MSU Board of Trustees unanimously approved Friday.
Each coach’s contract will now run for an additional year. Comley’s contract has been extended until 2014, Merchant’s until 2015 and Izzo’s until 2017.
The coaches are all currently on rolling contracts, or contracts that renewed annually by the board.
“We’ve been doing this for years and years,” Trustee Colleen McNamara said. “These are kind of state-of-the-art contracts. We’ve been doing this at Michigan State with three year contracts. (Coaches) always have three-year contracts so next year there will be another three year contract.”
