The accolades continue to roll in for MSU women’s cross country runner senior Emily MacLeod.
On Wednesday, MacLeod was named Great Lakes Region Female Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year after leading the No. 16 MSU women’s cross country team to a Big Ten championship this season.
MacLeod won the NCAA Great Lakes Cross Country Regional 6k in Rochester, Mich., on Saturday and became the first runner in MSU history to win back-to-back regional titles. She also was named Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year. This season, she also has been honored as Big Ten Runner of the Week twice.
Director of cross country and track and field Walt Drenth also was honored on Wednesday as he was named Great Lakes Region Women’s Coach of the Year. Drenth coached the Spartans to their first Big Ten title since 2001, and just the third time in school history.
The women’s cross country team earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships and will travel to Terry Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.
