Police brief 10/30/09

By Brittany Shammas (Last updated: 10/29/09 11:11pm)

Money stolen from student’s mail

A 19-year-old student and Emmons Hall resident opened a birthday card from his grandma to find the $119 she sent him missing, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The student told police the card was torn open and nothing was inside when he found it in his mailbox Oct. 22. He then contacted his grandma, a 70-year-old woman, who confirmed she purchased the card and filled it with cash.

There are no suspects and the incident is under investigation.

This is why they tell you “Don’t send cash in the mail.” Especially that much money. Poor old woman probably had it in all 10s and 5s. Nice thick envelope that some broke college student has to put in someone else’s mailbox…

Maybe the kid is scamming granny, trying to get her to send another wad of cash.

Not that random. 19 years old. 19 100, but a check should have been sent instead

$119 makes sense because she’s 19, and the $100 makes for a REALLY nice, even gift amount.

In any event, this sucks. I can’t tell you how many letters I get in the mail that are opened, or almost opened. This sucks. Now I tape EVERYTHING shut before I send it just to be safe.. what’s going on with the mail these days??
