Brody Complex, sometimes unaffectionately called “Grody Brody” or “The Brojects” by some of its almost 2,500 residents, might need a new nickname after upcoming renovations. The complex will undergo a series of renovations beginning with a $49–million makeover to Brody Hall, which hasn’t had major renovations since its construction in 1952, said Vennie Gore, assistant vice president for Housing and Food Services.

Good to see they’re planning on putting in a green roof. Brody is the easternmost part of the Montgomery drainage district, which has had a long history of flooding problems.

The Frandor shopping center & Red Cedar Golf Course are getting a green retrofit in the near future too, so all of this should fit together really nicely!

If MSU stopped spending millions and millions of dollars on campus changes every year, couldn’t they avoid raising tuition every year?

I’d rather have them construct something new rather than the ceiling falling on my head in a few years. Can’t wait to see what the new Brody will look like!

Yes Chris they could. And then they could sit back and watch the continued deterioration of campus buildings, and budget for future repair bills exceeding what they would spend to modernize them now. Sheer brilliance. Why didn’t anybody else think about that?!

Come on Chris, are you really going to hate on building improvements when we have a university that cares more about its sports promotion as opposed to academic excellence? Let’s talk about getting well endowed alumni to support academic programs instead of new football structures. Improvements to the student experience shouldn’t be criticised unless they are completely un-necessary (like a swimming pool on Brody’s green roof). Let’s think more systematically about how higher education is funded.
