Shaw Hall eating spaces reopened

April 6, 2009

The Shaw Hall cafeteria reopened Monday after it was closed for five days because of a virus that hospitalized about 30 students last week.

The cafeteria and Shaw Hall’s Totally Takeout opened doors at 4 p.m., Shaw Hall Dining Services Manager Carolyn Roy said.

The hall has undergone cleaning to rid common areas of norovirus, a stomach virus that hospitalized 30-plus MSU students starting Wednesday.

Although the virus is not believed to be food-borne, Shaw Hall’s cafeteria was closed and disinfected as a precaution. Other common areas, such as bathrooms and drinking fountains, underwent similar cleanings.

The students hospitalized last week all were discharged from Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital by Friday evening. None were ever in serious condition.
