Voting 101

November 2, 2008

Capital Area Transportation Authority, will be giving free rides to those with valid voter registration cards. Present the card to the driver for the free ride.

You do not need a voter registration card present in order to vote. State law does require a picture ID. Driver’s license, state ID card, passport or a current student ID card fulfill the photo ID requirement. If you do not posses a picture ID you will be asked to sign an affidavit saying you do not have an ID and will be allowed to vote normally.

Federal and state law requires every city and township to provide locations for easy voting. If in need of assistance, there will be two inspectors to help. Reason for assistance does not need to be stated. Do not wear election-related items to the polls. If you go to the polls with pins, clothing or other related material, you will be asked to remove or cover the item. Items of this nature are not permitted within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling place.

Cameras and other recording devices are not allowed in poll places while open for voting.

You may indicate straight party ticket at the top of the ballot. Doing so will select all the party’s candidates on the ballot, there is no need to vote for individual candidates.
