Neitzel to play for Timberwolves' summer league squad

Hours after the NBA Draft had ended, former MSU point guard Drew Neitzel agreed to be part of the Minnesota Timberwolves summer league squad.

Although Neitzel wasn’t selected in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, he will travel to Las Vegas to compete for a spot in Minnesota’s lineup starting July 11, Neitzel said in an e-mail.

Neitzel will stay with the Timberwolves organization for the duration of the summer league, but when it is completed he will be a free agent and will be able to sign with any NBA team that offers him a deal, according to a spokesman from the Timberwolves organization.

Many NBA organizations became interested in the 6-foot point guard after he traveled the country and worked out for nine NBA teams.

While at MSU, Neitzel was the co-captain of the Spartans and was named to the All-Big Ten First team. He also holds the MSU record for career free-throw percentage with .866.
