Hoopers honored for sportsmanship

By Alex Altman (Last updated: 06/08/08 9:00pm)

MSU graduates Drew Neitzel and Alisa Wulff were announced the Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners on Wednesday.

Neitzel, who graduated in May with a degree in interdisciplinary humanities, was a starting guard on the MSU men’s basketball team in each of the last three seasons and a co-captain his last two seasons.

Neitzel was also named a first-team All-Big Ten performer by league coaches and a second-team Academic All-American. He’s the first MSU player to receive back-to-back first-team all-conference honors since 2000, and the fifth player in school history to receive second-team academic honors.

Wulff, who graduated in May with a degree in kinesiology, was a co-captain on the MSU women’s basketball team this season.

The versatile guard started 18 games for the Spartans, averaging 2.9 points per game. Wulff also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors this spring.
