He might be a freshman, but guard Gary Harris is having no problem stepping in as the big man on campus.
His transition to MSU has been so smooth, in fact, that he has already begun to bring in awards, as Harris was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Harris has lit up the scoreboard for the Spartans, as he averaged 16.0 points per game with the Spartans, including a crucial 18 point performance during the Spartan’s 67-64 victory over then-No. 7 Kansas last Tuesday.
With his impressive start, Harris finds himself in the same company as former guard Sam Vincent and former forward Raymar Morgan as the only Spartans to score in the double digits in their first three games. Harris is not only finding himself in the record books, but he is also topping the stat books for this year’s team, as he leads the Spartans with 48 points.
The Indiana native was the prize of this year’s recruiting class, as he came in as a McDonalds All-American and the No. 11 ranked high school player by ESPNU’s Top-100 list.
