For fans of the AMC drama “Breaking Bad” the beginning of the end starts tonight — sort of. The fifth and final season of the critically acclaimed AMC series begins at 10 p.m.
The story of a chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine manufacturer Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston (widely known for his role as Hal in “Malcolm in the Middle”), won’t be concluded until 2013. Only eight of the season’s 16 episodes will air this summer, thus delaying the finale of the Emmy-winning series.
The show focuses on the story of White, his partner Jesse Pinkman, his family and how his life changes as he gets deeper into the drug trafficking underworld — which he chose to pursue to provide financial security for his family after being diagnosed with cancer.
Since it premiered in 2008, “Breaking Bad” has won four Emmy Awards, three Saturn Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
