With its current dean, William Strampel, placed on medical leave since December 2017, the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine has its apparent next dean. At least on an interim basis.

Andrea Amalfitano, director of MSU's Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, will be recommended for the position of interim dean. The move will be effective Feb. 16, as Amalfitano must be approved by the MSU Board of Trustees first in a meeting.

Strampel is named in lawsuits against both MSU and Nassar.

Nassar is currently in Ingham County this week for his sentencing. Survivors have given victim impact statements, as Nassar pleaded guilty to seven first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges in Ingham County and three in Eaton County.

MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine also sent out an email to its class of 2019 that had Nassar on a list of previous collegiate award winners. The email was sent out on Jan. 19.
