After wins against Illinois, Wisconsin and Maryland last week, MSU climbed one spot in the newest Associated Press Top 25, to No. 5.

The poll, which was released at noon Monday, has the Spartans ranked the second-best team in the Big Ten, along with No. 3 Purdue, No. 17 Ohio State and No. 24 University of Michigan.

The Boilermakers are the only Big Ten team to receive a first-place vote.

MSU has won four games in a row and took care of Illinois on the road, 87-74, on Monday. The Spartans also defeated Wisconsin at the Breslin Center on Friday, 76-61, and Maryland at the Xfinity Center on Sunday, 74-68.

The Spartans will rest until Wednesday, when Penn State comes to East Lansing. Penn State (15-8, 5-5 Big Ten) has won its last two games. That game tips off at 6:30 p.m.
