Defensive end Khalid Kareem picks MSU

February 3, 2015

Khalid Kareem, the local product from Farmington Hills Harrison, is the latest 2016 recruit who's taking his talents to MSU for his college career, as he committed to the program during Sunday's MSU and Michigan basketball game in East Lansing.

Rated at No. 20 at the strong-side defensive end position by 24/7 sports, Kareem is the second commit in next year's class for head coach Mark Dantonio, along with wide receiver Cameron Chambers from Sickerlerville, NJ.

As a junior, Kareem led the Hawks to the semifinals in the Michigan high school division 2 playoffs before falling short to Muskegon Mona Shores. He finished the year with 85 tackles and 10 sacks.

With the commitment from Kareem, MSU rose eight spots in the 2016 team recruiting rankings to No. 31, one spot ahead of the Wolverines, by 24/7Sports

Both Kareem and Chambers give the Spartans the sixth highest rated class in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers.

The 6-foot-5, 240 pounder also holds offers from UM, Ohio State, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin, Tennessee and others.
