Whole Foods Market has announced plans to open an East Lansing establishment in 2015.

The eighth-largest food and drug store in the U.S. will open it’s newest location on East Grand River Avenue., less than a mile east of MSU’s campus.

“At Whole Foods Market, we strive to offer the freshest, most flavorful natural and organic foods available, and we are overjoyed to increase our presence in Michigan,” Whole Foods Market Midwest Regional President Michael Bashaw said in a press release. “This new store will allow us an opportunity to offer our wide selection of high quality products to an even larger customer base and at the same time serve the local community in unique and special ways.”

Whole Foods Lansing will be approximately 35,000 square feet and create approximately 150 jobs, ranging from community service to store leadership.

Founded in Austin, Texas in 1980, Whole Foods is America’s leading retailer in natural and organic foods, and the first national “Certified Organic” grocer, according to its quarterly report.

The company had sales of approximately $12 billion in fiscal year 2012 and has 355 stores in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.
