After a completely revamped menu and interior design, the establishment formerly known as Stateside Deli reopened as Spencer’s Kitchen at 313 E. Grand River Ave., on Wednesday.

Restaurant owner Spencer Soka said he hopes to add “and Bar” to the new name once the establishment obtains a liquor license.

The standard deli fare has been expanded to encompass Italian, Mexican and vegetarian cuisines.

“We plan to provide a customer with full service, either (a) dine-in experience or take-out,” Soka said. “Of course, because I am the same owner of Stateside Deli, we still keep our corned beef sandwiches.”

Justin Moss, an interdisciplinary humanities junior according to MSU’s directory, used to eat at Stateside Deli and was impressed by the establishment’s new image.

“When you walk in, there’s a different feel to it,” Moss said. “It feels much more like a professional environment where you would come after class to maybe sit down with your friends and get a drink. I’ll probably come more now that’s it’s a more beautiful place and different food.”
