ASMSU approves April carnival, moves to support medical amnesty non-profit

March 28, 2013

ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government wrapped up its 49th session by passing a handful of bills, including a move to bring a carnival to campus at the beginning of April.

The carnival officially will take place from 3-11 p.m on April 7 at the Breslin Center west area parking lot. Tickets for the event are $10 per student. The event will include a total of six rides and concessions. Some of the rides the carnival would offer include a ferris wheel, the scrambler and a giant slide.

The general assembly unanimously passed a bill allocating up to $25,500 from the special projects fund to support the Spring Carnival.

The Spring Carnival will serve as one of the group’s elections events with candidates planning to be in attendance at the event to meet the student body that will be voting for them.

“As the bill states, this will be an event for us to showcase our candidates for the general assembly,” Vice President for Internal Administration Denzel McCampbell said. “This is part of our election week to get people out to vote.”

Another important event that occurred at the meeting Thursday night was passing a resolution to support the Medical Amnesty Initiative, a non-profit organization, and support efforts to educate states on medical amnesty legislation.

ASMSU was the driving force behind the medical amnesty law that encourages students to call for medical assistance without having to worry about falling into legal trouble.

“Only nine states have passed medical amnesty so I think it is very important to continue to advocate for medical amnesty,” ASMSU James Madison College Representative Jessica Leacher said.
