Charges against international student dropped

December 6, 2012

Charges against MSU freshman Yanlin Li have been dismissed for further police investigation, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III said.

Li was facing three felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly stabbing three MSU students with a knife Sept. 13.

Dunnings said the need to dismiss and reinvestigate the case stemmed from witnesses dispersing from the scene of the incident before police were able to talk with them.

Li, an international student, allegedly stabbed three other Chinese international students after a confrontation at a Lansing restaurant the same day.

In a previous interview with The State News, East Lansing police Capt. Jeff Murphy said Li likely learned where the other students were going after the argument and came to assault them later that night.
Li was arrested Sept. 14 and arraigned the next day.
