"War Horse" comes to Wharton Center

November 26, 2012

Wharton Center is prepping its Cobb Great Hall stage for a portrayal of friendship, loyalty and heartbreak. “War Horse” will be featured from Dec. 5-9 at Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall.

The Broadway show is a musical set in early 1900s England during grueling World War I. The musical tells the story of a boy and his horse and the saddening loss experienced by the two. Albert, a young boy, is forced to face the loss of his horse companion, Joey, when the English cavalry ships the horse to France for use in battle. While Joey embarks on his unique journey, Albert faces the dilemma of tracking his beloved horse.

Transitioning from its recent on-screen portrayal, “War Horse” will complete its transition to the Cobb Great Hall stage with a large, 120-pound wooden horse puppet to act as the role of Joey. The multiple life-sized horse puppets used in the musical were created in South Africa by Handspring Puppet Company.

Tickets are available through Wharton Center Box Office. Prices range based on seating from $32-$72.
