Spartans play to 2-2 tie with Miami (Ohio), lose shootout

MSU hockey rounded out the first half of the Miami (Ohio) series with one point after maintaining a score of 2-2 through overtime.

The No. 4/4-ranked Miami (Ohio) won in the shootout, earning an extra CCHA point in the standings.

After giving up two goals to the RedHawks in the first period, MSU hockey responded with a two-goal second period, with sophomore forward Matt Berry and junior defenseman Jake Chelios getting the tallies.

The Spartans and RedHawks held that score throughout the third period and one overtime period.

Miami (Ohio) outshot MSU, 25-20, with freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand in net for MSU.

The two teams take the ice again at 7:05 p.m., on Saturday night in RedHawks’ territory.
