MSU's Avian Science Club profits from turkey fundraiser

November 26, 2012

The Avian Science Club hosted its annual turkey sales throughout November and sold more than 190 turkeys.

Angela Johnson, president of the Avian Science Club, said the club made more than $3,000 in profits from the sales of the birds. These profits will go toward helping members of the Avian Science Club pay to go to the International Poultry Expo.

Johnson said she thinks the Avian Science Club will do it again next year, even though she doesn’t know where she will get the turkeys from.

“We don’t know what birds we’re going to use yet,” Johnson said. “The birds we usually get from the MSU behavioral project won’t be available next year because they’re not doing the projects next year.”

She said next year they plan on raising the turkeys themselves at the turkey farm at MSU.

Even though it was nice to raise some extra money for the International Poultry Expo, Johnson said the biggest thing members got from this is experience.
