Midnight Madness, the kickoff to the 2012-13 basketball season will take place beginning at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Breslin Center.

There will be autographs on the concourse for fans before the player introductions begin at 10:30 p.m.

The Spartan Marching Band, MSU Dance Team and MSU cheerleaders all will be performing, in addition to a few appearances throughout the evening by Sparty.

With a taste for antics, women’s basketball head coach Suzy Merchant and men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo usually have a special treat for the fans in attendance. Last season, Izzo entered the floor in a miniature jet plane to celebrate the team’s game on the USS Carl Vinson against North Carolina.

Both squads will scrimmage after midnight.

The women’s team begins their season with two exhibition games, the first against Saginaw Valley State on Nov. 1, and the second against Grand Valley State on Nov. 4 before taking on the UT Arlington to begin nonconference play.

The men’s team opens up exhibition play against Northwood on Oct. 30, continuing on to play St. Cloud State on Nov. 2 and beginning regular season play against Connecticut
at Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Nov. 9.
