ELPD investigates September assault

October 11, 2012

The East Lansing Police Department, or ELPD, is investigating an assault from the weekend of the Notre Dame football game.

ELPD Capt. Bill Mitchell said a female Wayne State University student and a male Lansing Community College student were assaulted on the evening of Sept. 17 at the intersection of Ann and Division streets.

“They got into a confrontation with six other people, and then these two were assaulted,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said the male victim had his jaw broken during the assault and broke multiple bones in his eye socket. The female twisted or sprained her ankle when she was assaulted, and one of the assailants stole her cell phone.

He said the current conditions of the victims are unknown and some of the people involved in the incident were under the influence of alcohol.

Police found her phone nearby the next day, but ELPD does not believe the motive of the assault was theft.

ELPD has no suspects in the case. Investigators are working on a few leads, and anyone with information on the assault should contact ELPD, Mitchell said.
