Two females facing armed robbery charges for robbing Admiral Gas Station, 1120 E. Grand River Ave. and allegedly spraying the station clerk with Mace appeared in court today to schedule pretrials and preliminary examinations.
Chrystal Atkins and Chelsi Howard, who are both 23 years old and from Flint, Mich., appeared separately in 54B District Court, 101 Linden Street, before Judge David Jordan.
East Lansing police responded to a call at about 4:30 a.m. June 24 from the Admiral station clerk, who said one woman was carrying a knife and the other sprayed Mace at him.
One of the women was arrested when she returned to TownePlace Suites in East Lansing, 2855 Hannah Blvd., where the pair was staying.
MSU police arrested the other suspect near Grand River Avenue and Hagadorn Road.
Both pretrials were set for July 31 and both preliminary examinations for Aug. 3
Atkins received a bond set at $15,000 and must reside with her mother in Flint, Mich. Defense Attorney Duane Silverthorn will be working with officials on a GPS for Atkins.
Due to Atkins’ lack of prior criminal history, 54-B District Court prosecutor Russel Church said he agreed to these conditions.
Howard did not have an attorney present and was denied bond.
