The grandson of former University of Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, Chad Carr, has passed away after his 15 month battle with inoperable brain cancer.
Junior Alexis Wiersma had already been honored with selections to the First-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team All-Great Lakes Region for women’s cross country, but Wiersma didn’t stop there.
An MSU senior received the Rhodes Scholar today, according to a press release. Sarah Kovan, a comparative cultures and politics and human biology senior, is the only Rhodes Scholar from Michigan.
For a second night in a row MSU hockey (4-5-2) couldn’t close out a two goal lead surrendering two late goals to Michigan Tech (7-4-1) in a 4-4 tie Sunday evening.
On Wednesday morning, before any spartans had even gotten up for their 8am’s, the MSU men’s club basketball team was up practicing at IM East.
As the only team involved in four sports at once, the Spartan Cheerleading team is busy after transitioning into their busiest month of the year: November. Head Coach Elyse Packard said besides preparing for the first football and volleyball games during the month of August, November is the busiest period because all four sports that the team cheers for are in season. “Of course we also hope that the month of March will be busy,” Packard said.
It was junior kicker Michael Geiger’s shot to win the game. The shot he has been waiting for all year – and he nailed it from 41 yards out.
Before the football season began, many Spartan fans had Nov. 21 circled on their calendars. In a season full of lofty expectations, MSU knew that the game against Ohio State would be the most important of the season. No. 9-ranked MSU (10-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten) upset No. 3-ranked Ohio State (10-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten) 17-14 in Columbus in front of a record-breaking crowd at Ohio Stadium of 108,975 people.
The game was weird from the start. Michigan Tech fans packed Munn, and generated a home game atmosphere for the Huskies.

The MSU women's basketball team is off to a 3-0 start to the season so far. The Spartans got contributions from many players, including junior guard Tori Jankoska, who scored her 1,000th career point during the game.

Whenever people describe Ohio State fans it is generally negative, but the crowd at ESPN's College GameDay couldn't disagree more. "We live in Cleveland now so we came down for the game and we brought our two-year-old and it’s just been fun," 2002 social relations graduate Laura James said. "It’s really kind of a family atmosphere and just fun to see other State fans and cheer and yell go green and go white to each other.” James will always love her alma mater, but she has been pleased with the people of Columbus and the atmosphere. “Nothing compares to East Lansing, East Lansing will always be home," James said. "It’s a little tough with all the Buckeye fans around, but it’s a great atmosphere, a lot of happy faces and everyone’s been really nice.”
Spartans branding green and white were sprinkled into the sea of scarlet red today for tailgating at Columbus, Ohio.
With No. 9-ranked MSU (9-1 overall, 5-1 Big Ten) vs. Ohio State (10-0 overall, 6-0 Big Ten) less than 24 hours away, things are beginning to heat up. Former Spartan and current Golden State Warrior Draymond Green challenged known OSU fan LeBron James to a wager using Bleacher Report's UNINTERRUPTED as a platform to do so. "Personal challenge or whatever you want to call it, I'm calling out LeBron you know (he's a) big Buckeye fan," Green said donning MSU football gear.
The MSU-OSU football game at 3:30 p.m. EST in Columbus, Ohio will surely set the playoff path for the victor, but the Spartans and Buckeyes are rising above this rivalry to support a University of Michigan family. Five-year-old Chad Carr, grandson of former Wolverines' head coach Lloyd Carr and Hall of Fame safety Tom Curtis, will be recognized by the two teams with a helmet decal.
On Tuesday night the world was shown the premiere of the Denzel Valentine show. On Friday the show didn’t air --- but the crowd at Breslin Center witnessed a show complete with a cast of characters able to carry the show without a star. MSU proved on Friday they need not rely on Denzel for the win.
