Road bumps were bound to materialize in the No. 8 MSU hockey team’s season. With the Spartans starting 14 underclassmen in each game, MSU head coach Rick Comley said this season’s red-hot start, in which the Spartans went 9-2-2, eventually would hit a wall.

Spartans rebound after upset loss
The No. 2 MSU men’s basketball team split a pair of weekend games at the Legends Classic in Atlantic City, N.J., bouncing back with a convincing win Saturday against Massachusetts after being upset by Florida on Friday.

No. 25 MSU wins double-overtime thriller against Oklahoma State
In a game with 22 lead changes and 12 ties, the No. 25 MSU women’s basketball team finally broke through late in the second overtime, earning a hard-fought 93-90 double-overtime win against Oklahoma State to win the Lucaya Division of the Junkanoo Jam on Saturday night in Freeport, Bahamas.

Palmisano's effort not enough as Spartans drop 3rd straight, 2-1 to Minnesota
After allowing four goals on Friday night and being yanked midway through the game, sophomore goaltender Drew Palmisano wanted to make up for his spotty performance when he received the starting nod Saturday night.

Tom Izzo became the winningest coach in the history of MSU men’s basketball Saturday as the Spartans routed Massachusetts 106-68 in the third place game of the Legends Classic at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The No. 8 MSU hockey team looked like a squad who ate too much turkey at Thanksgiving dinner, opted for the extra slice of pumpkin pie and woke up before the sun to try and find the early-bird shopping specials on Black Friday.

Gators upset Spartans in Legends Classic, 77-74
Conventional wisdom says a basketball team can’t win a game committing 22 turnovers. Friday night, the No. 2 MSU men’s basketball team did everything it could to buck conventional wisdom – making 53 percent of its shots, out-rebounding Florida by 16 and holding the lead for much of the second half.

After slow start, Spartans overcome George Washington 78-47
The No. 25 MSU women’s basketball team found itself down 11-2 early in the first half Friday against George Washington. But from there, the Spartans roared back, outscoring the Colonials 76-36 the rest of the way to pick up a 78-47 win in the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.

Police and university officials are remaining quiet on an assault that occurred Sunday night in Rather Hall, which reportedly involved members of the MSU football team.

No. 2 Spartans travel to N.J. for rematch of 2000 national title game
Draymond Green and the rest of the MSU men’s basketball team know what it could mean. For years, head coach Tom Izzo has been harping to his players in what he deems the “What have you done for me lately?” society of college basketball that it’s been God-knows-how-long since the Spartans won an early-season tournament.

The Big Ten topped all conferences for the fifth straight season as eight players were named Academic All-America, the league announced Tuesday.

MSU field hockey senior midfielders Floor Rijpma and Jeamie Deacon were named All-Americans this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Athletic sophomore keys Spartans in crucial assist role
It all started when her coach noticed she was tall and left-handed. At that time, Natalie Emro, who was playing on a 12-and-under club volleyball squad, was asked to be a setter for her team. And she’s maintained that role in her current position as setter for the MSU volleyball team.

Thanksgiving weekend will provide tough task
The MSU hockey team won’t have to miss Thanksgiving dinner Thursday. Even though the No. 8 Spartans will host No. 15 Wisconsin and Minnesota on Friday and Saturday in the annual College Hockey Showcase, MSU head coach Rick Comley is giving his players Thursday off.

Grading Spartans' underachieving year
Another football season has come and gone in East Lansing, and the Spartans, picked to finish third in the Big Ten this season, had a disappointing year, finishing 6-6 in regular season play and 4-4 in the Big Ten.
