No. 2 MSU football team pushes through early season injuries

When No. 2-ranked MSU takes on Central Michigan on Saturday the Spartans will be a different team from the one they planned on entering the season with. Senior linebacker Ed Davis was lost for the year before the season even started with a knee injury. Recently redshirt freshman cornerback Vayante Copeland was lost for the year with a neck injury.

There is certainly a strong physical aspect to playing the goalie position in soccer. As the last line of defense and only player on the field allowed to use his hands, the goalie has to be nimble enough to cover the entire width of the net — 24 feet.  Senior goalkeeper Zach Bennett knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a good goalkeeper.

Five things to know before MSU football takes on CMU

Before the No. 2-ranked Spartans (3-0 overall) take on CMU (1-2 overall) on Saturday here are a few things you should know: Familiar Faces CMU defensive backs coach Archie Collins played safety at MSU, lettering in 1996-97 and then assisted with the coaching of the defensive backs and special teams from 2010-12. The Chippewas defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Greg Colby was Colby a graduate assistant at MSU from 1987-88  and then he returned a defensive assistant from 1995-97

Aaron Burbridge named Big Ten offensive player of the week

Senior wide receiver Aaron Burbridge has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after career highs in receptions (8), yards (156) and touchdowns (3) against Air Force. Burbridge’s performance tied the MSU record for receiving touchdowns in a game and solidified his role as the Spartans’ top target. Burbridge, just three games into the season, has already broke his career high for total receiving yards and has amassed over 100 yards in each of the Spartans’ 2015 games. “You got to go out there with the confidence to know what you are doing,” Burbridge said after the game on Saturday.

MSU cornerback Vayante Copeland reportedly may be out for season

MSU defensive back Vayante Copland is reportedly out for the remainder of the season with a neck injury, according to reports by the Detroit Free Press. "It broke my heart when he texted us and said he was out for the season," junior defensive back Demetrious Cox said to Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press following the game on Saturday.
