MSU hockey head coach Adam Nightingale receives a five-year contract extension

With the continuing success of the Michigan State hockey program, including a record season and a Big Ten regular season championship, a new five-year contract for head coach Adam Nightingale has been announced. Under the helm of Nightingale, Michigan State's hockey team has had one of the best turnarounds in the history of college hockey and has not gone unnoticed, resulting in the announcement of the contract from MSU Vice President and Director of Athletics, Alan Haller.

MSU wrestling prepares for Big Ten Wrestling Championships, six Spartans earn top-10 seeding

Michigan State wrestling is preparing to head to College Park, Md. for the Big Ten Wrestling Championship, which is set to take place on March 9 and March 10. Six Spartans occupy a spot in the top 10 pre-seeds ahead of the Big Ten Championship, which is determined by the votes from coaches and a combination of head-to-head records, individual records and the player's individual ranking.

MSU hockey's Trey Augustine named Big Ten Second Star of the Week, Spartans move up to fifth in USA Hockey polls

Coming off of a split weekend against the Wisconsin Badgers and clinching the Big Ten regular season champions title, the Spartans made moves in the polls for the final week of the regular season before hopping into the Big Ten Tournament. While Michigan State stayed in its No. 6 rank in the USCHO polls – just behind the Badgers – as well as keeping its No. 5 spot in the PairWise rankings, the Spartans jumped ahead of their previous opponents into the No. 5 rank in the USA Hockey polls, just behind the powerhouse Denver University by one lone point.

NCAA Tournament hopes at stake for MSU men's basketball ahead of Senior Night against Northwestern

At Michigan State University, Senior Day for the men’s basketball program is more than an event. As the seniors bend down to kiss the Spartan head at midcourt and walk off Breslin’s court for the final time, it’s a tradition, celebration and collective send-off. For this season's MSU squad, senior night is all of that and more. While the Spartans honor six seniors against Northwestern on Wednesday night, head coach Tom Izzo knows his group desperately needs a victory.

MSU men's basketball upset by Ohio State with buzzer-beater, lose fourth game at home this season

Freshman forward Xavier Booker was given the opportunity of a lifetime for a freshman when he stepped on the court and got his first-ever collegiate start against an in-conference rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes. The moment, however, will forever remain bittersweet for Booker and the Michigan State Spartans after the team was stunned by a walk-off buzzer-beater three-pointer by the Buckeyes to end the game at 60-57.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Michigan State women's basketball dominates second meeting against Rutgers, win 93-57

After a 70-66 victory against Michigan last Sunday and a 68-59 victory over Purdue on Wednesday, the Michigan State women's basketball team collected its third victory in a row as they dominated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 93-57 on Saturday, Feb. 24. With this win, the Spartans now sit at 20-7 in overall play and 10-6 in Big Ten conference games, and the Scarlet Knights fall to 8-22 overall and 2-15 in conference games.

MSU hockey not enough for Ohio State's momentum, lose 6-2 in night one of series

After a bye week for the Spartans, the men's hockey team was back at Munn Ice Arena for the final home series of the regular season to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. OSU is currently ranked last in the Big Ten with just a lone three conference wins, but after a prior weekend sweep against the Wisconsin Badgers, the Buckeyes kept their hot streak alive and took a dominating 6-2 win over the Spartans.
