Coming into Saturday's game, the team had only made two field goals in the season, one against Illinois and one against Maryland. In preparation for their matchup with the Scarlet Knights, Head Coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans decided to change the way they practiced kicking.
The Spartans were able to actually move the ball with some consistency throughout the afternoon both through the air and on the ground. That improved look on offense can be tied directly to the improved rushing attack.
Michigan State football is one game closer to bowl eligibility. The Spartans defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 27-21 Saturday in East Lansing thanks to solid offensive performances from both the run and the pass game.

After sweeping the Buckeyes, the Spartans are now 8-3-1 on the season, earning themselves the number two spot in the Big Ten standings.
"For our kids to show the resilience to play from behind to come back in overtime after that late equalizing goal — I have been doing this a long time and there's not very many teams that come back from a moment like that emotionally and still come on to execute," Hosler said. "I am so happy for our group, tough as they showed, and this should serve us well moving forward."
