No. 25 MSU volleyball (5-3 overall) will host the 2014 Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational this weekend at Jenison Field House. The Spartans welcome LIU Brooklyn (7-3 overall), Western Kentucky (10-2 overall) and UW-Milwaukee (4-6 overall) to East Lansing for a two-day, six-game tournament.
No. 25 MSU volleyball (5-3 overall) will have to find a way to pick up the slack left behind after junior setter Halle Peterson dislocated her shoulder. Peterson injured her shoulder during Friday’s game against No. 14 Oregon. There is no timetable for her return.
The Spartan volleyball team (5-3 overall) returned home on Sunday with one more loss and one more win after splitting two games in the Big Ten/Pac-12 challenge.“We played two quality Pac-12 teams,” head coach Cathy George said. “I think there were areas where we grew and areas where we need to get sharper as a whole.”
MSU (5-3 overall) snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday night with a 3-1 win over previously undefeated Oregon State (7-1), 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21). The Spartans were able to salvage a split in the Big Ten- Pac 12 tournament after losing to Oregon on Friday night, 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 12-25).
The volleyball team will try and do what the football team failed to do last weekend — defeat Oregon in Eugene. No. 23 MSU (4-2 overall) will play the No. 18 Ducks (6-0 overall) on Friday and Oregon State (5-0 overall) on Saturday as part of the Big Ten- Pac 12 challenge.
The No. 23 Spartans (4-2) will try and get the taste of defeat out of their mouth this week when they head to the west coast to face No.

However, after losing to No. 20 North Carolina 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 22-25) and No. 19 Duke 3-2 (25-12, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 10-15) in consecutive nights as part of the ACC- Big Ten Challenge last weekend, MSU will have to regroup.

The women’s volleyball team is undefeated, and a big reason why is because of the contributions of underclassmen.No. 14 MSU (4-0) swept the competition at the UAB/Samford Invitational over the weekend. The Spartans won three of the four games in the minimum three sets.
