Thanks in large part to opposite hitter Allyssah Fitterer and outside hitter Chloe Reinig, MSU (19-13 overall) defeated Loyola Marymount (23-8 overall), 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21) in Palo Alto, Calif.
It’s dancing time for the volleyball team. MSU (18-13 overall, 11-9 Big Ten) will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night against Loyola Marymount (23-7 overall, 11-7 West Coast Conference) at Stanford’s campus in Palo Alto, California at 7:30 p.m.
Women’s volleyball received four All-Big Ten honors for the 2014 season, announced Tuesday by conference coaches.

The volleyball team saved its best performance for the last home game of the regular season. MSU (17-13 overall, 10-9 Big Ten) swept No. 19 Purdue (22-9 overall, 12-7 Big Ten), 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) on senior night at Jenison Field House.
The ups and downs of the volleyball team’s roller coaster season has provided a silver lining — growth. “You learn, you get shut down, you have to come back, you have to pick yourself up,” head coach Cathy George said.
Volleyball head coach Cathy George won her 550th game in impressive fashion Saturday night. MSU (16-13 overall, 9-9 Big Ten) swept Rutgers (7-24 overall, 0-18 Big Ten), 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) at Jenison Field House.
The women’s volleyball team matched the football team with a blowout of its own on Saturday night against Rutgers.
The women’s volleyball team was able to win back-to-back games for the first time in a month.
The women’s volleyball team will try and build some momentum on Wednesday night as the season heads into the final stretch. “We’re in a very confident state right now,” senior libero and team co-captain Kori Moster said.

This wasn’t the way the season was supposed to go for Kori Moster and the women’s volleyball team.
It was another tough-luck Spartan loss on Sunday afternoon. MSU (13-12 overall, 6-8 Big Ten) could not slow down white-hot No. 4 Wisconsin (22-2 overall, 13-1 Big Ten) at Jenison Field House, losing in straight sets, 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 22-25).
The women’s volleyball team will have to wait at least a couple more days to win its 750th game in program history. MSU (13-11 overall, 6-7 Big Ten) could not handle Minnesota (15-9 overall, 5-8 Big Ten) at Jenison Field House on Friday night, losing in four sets, 1-3 (18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 19-25).
The women’s volleyball team will face two polar opposite opponents this weekend, who are also trending in two different directions.
