Zach Bennett earns sole possession of MSU shutout record in 1-0 victory over Akron

The men's soccer team defeated the Akron Zips 1-0 on Oct. 7. The shutout victory, MSU's eighth in 10 games, gave junior goalkeeper Zach Bennett sole possession of the school record for most career shutouts. "To break the shutout record and against a good team like Akron, it means a lot," Bennett said. "I think I've worked pretty hard, that's what I came to Michigan State to potentially do...it's a special moment not only for me but for the whole defense and the whole team."

In absence, Montague showed leadership ability for men's soccer

The men’s soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-0 conference) have reeled off two straight wins after losing to Valparaiso 1-0 on Sept. 11 and they’ve done it without some key players, asking others to step up in their place. The game is not all MSU lost on Sept. 11, as the Spartans lost team captain senior forward Adam Montague. His loss was immediately felt in the game as head coach Damon Rensing cited it as a factor in the loss.
