Zach Bennett earns sole possession of MSU shutout record in 1-0 victory over Akron

The men's soccer team defeated the Akron Zips 1-0 on Oct. 7. The shutout victory, MSU's eighth in 10 games, gave junior goalkeeper Zach Bennett sole possession of the school record for most career shutouts. "To break the shutout record and against a good team like Akron, it means a lot," Bennett said. "I think I've worked pretty hard, that's what I came to Michigan State to potentially do...it's a special moment not only for me but for the whole defense and the whole team."

In absence, Montague showed leadership ability for men's soccer

The men’s soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-0 conference) have reeled off two straight wins after losing to Valparaiso 1-0 on Sept. 11 and they’ve done it without some key players, asking others to step up in their place. The game is not all MSU lost on Sept. 11, as the Spartans lost team captain senior forward Adam Montague. His loss was immediately felt in the game as head coach Damon Rensing cited it as a factor in the loss.

Men's soccer will face top-ranked Bowling Green scoring offense on Wednesday

While the men’s soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 Big Ten) prepares to play against the Bowling Green State University Falcons (6-1-0 overall) on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 24, they will be faced with the daunting task of stopping the current leading scorer in the nation — Bowling Green’s sophomore forward Pat Flynn, who has 12 goals through seven games thus far. Flynn is already on the minds of MSU’s coaches as head coach Damon Rensing cited stopping Pat Flynn as a key to success on Wednesday.

Women's soccer falls to Rutgers, 1-0

MSU suffered another late defeat, this time at the hands of Big Ten newcomer Rutgers, 1-0.The Spartans (6-3 overall, 0-3 Big Ten) and Scarlet Knights were tied at zero after the first game’s 88 minutes, but Rutgers broke through with a goal in the 89th minute to finish off MSU.Rutgers junior forward Samantha Valliant took a free kick from 20 yards out on the left side and beat MSU redshirt senior goalkeeper
