Spartan icers ready for No. 9 Alaska

The No. 16 MSU hockey team is going from the Black Bears to the polar bears — the No. 9 Alaska Nanooks to be exact. After finishing last weekend with a win and a tie against No. 12 Maine, MSU will take on CCHA foe Alaska on Friday and Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.

Spartans tie Maine, 4-4

After a momentum-changing ejection of a Maine player, the No. 20 MSU hockey team fought back from a 4-2 deficit to tie No. 8 Maine, 4-4, Thursday night at Munn Ice Arena.

Going into its first and only exhibition game, the MSU hockey team expected the defense to lead the way to a successful season. But after Friday’s 5-3 loss to Western Ontario, head coach Rick Comley is trying to figure out his team.

Former icers visit Sparrow for kids

Current Detroit Red Wing forwards and MSU alumni Drew Miller and Justin Abdelkader visited Sparrow Hospital on Thursday to present a donation of more than $22,000 through Miller’s charity, Spartan Buddies.
