After joining MSU in Feb. 2020, Tucker and his staff were handcuffed by the pandemic. They could not hold practice with the team over the summer and could not host recruits after Tucker’s first two weeks in East Lansing because of the pandemic recruiting dead period instituted by the NCAA. This is Tucker’s first chance to leave his imprint on the program outside of just leadership.
"Our goal is to provide our student-athletes the tools for success — on the field of competition, inside the classroom and beyond MSU," Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Beekman said in the press release. "Name, image and likeness legislation will offer new opportunities for our student-athletes and EverGreen will prepare and position them for these changes.”
The United States Supreme Court ruled unanimously against the NCAA in a historic antitrust case, NCAA vs Alston et al, that restricted the association’s powers to deny education-related perks for student-athletes.
“I finally decided I'm just going to retire and I'm going to devote my attention to expanding awareness of Michigan State's leading role in college football integration because it's basically an unknown story,” MSU alumnus Tom Shanahan said. “And not even the university understands the magnitude of what these Duffy Daugherty teams of the 1960s meant to Michigan State and all of college football.”
The Olympians also spoke about the impact of the decision to cut the program with the Olympics taking place this summer. Green pointed out that the Olympics, especially Swimming, is revered by Americans and can inspire people to reach that level of competition.

The swim & dive program has produced 20 Olympians across the board from swimmers, divers, coaches and trainers since its creation.
This will be the first head coaching change for the program in 30 years following Tom Saxton’s retirement.
