Football runs in the family for MSU wide receiver Monty Madaris

Monty Madaris, redshirt-junior wide receiver and defensive back at MSU, played for the skinny bricks alongside his cousin Rodriguez. Lined up across the backyard on the roughnecks were the boys’ other cousins, Greg and Michael Means Jr. While also in the Eastside of Cincinnati, their cousin Isiah Gentry was growing up a few years behind the six-year-olds’ makeshift league. Madaris, Means Jr. and Gentry, all products of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati and all wide receivers, now play NCAA Division I football across the Midwest, with Means Jr. being a redshirt-junior at Akron and Gentry a redshirt-freshman at Minnesota.

Dantonio downplays senior day, Cook still in question and more notes on MSU football

Before No. 6-ranked MSU (10-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten) takes on Penn State (7-4 overall, 4-3 Big Ten) this Saturday head coach Mark Dantonio held his weekly press conference, here are a few takeaways from Dantonio's statements to the media: Some things come before sports Before Dantonio began speaking about football he took time for some special acknowledgements. MSU keeps playoff hopes alive with win over Ohio State

Before the football season began, many Spartan fans had Nov. 21 circled on their calendars. In a season full of lofty expectations, MSU knew that the game against Ohio State would be the most important of the season. No. 9-ranked MSU (10-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten) upset No. 3-ranked Ohio State (10-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten) 17-14 in Columbus in front of a record-breaking crowd at Ohio Stadium of 108,975 people.

The No. 9 MSU football team (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) defeated No. 3 Ohio State (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten), 17-14, off a last second 41-yard field goal from junior kicker Michael Geiger.  The victory puts MSU in control of its own destiny in terms of the Big Ten Championship and potentially the College Football Playoff. Ohio State fans welcoming to MSU football fans

Whenever people describe Ohio State fans it is generally negative, but the crowd at ESPN's College GameDay couldn't disagree more. "We live in Cleveland now so we came down for the game and we brought our two-year-old and it’s just been fun," 2002 social relations graduate Laura James said. "It’s really kind of a family atmosphere and just fun to see other State fans and cheer and yell go green and go white to each other.” James will always love her alma mater, but she has been pleased with the people of Columbus and the atmosphere. “Nothing compares to East Lansing, East Lansing will always be home," James said. "It’s a little tough with all the Buckeye fans around, but it’s a great atmosphere, a lot of happy faces and everyone’s been really nice.”

Spartans and Buckeyes support U-M Carr family

The MSU-OSU football game at 3:30 p.m. EST in Columbus, Ohio will surely set the playoff path for the victor, but the Spartans and Buckeyes are rising above this rivalry to support a University of Michigan family. Five-year-old Chad Carr, grandson of former Wolverines' head coach Lloyd Carr and Hall of Fame safety Tom Curtis, will be recognized by the two teams with a helmet decal.
