WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Spartans 1st in Big Ten after besting Hoosiers in overtime victory

The MSU women’s basketball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten on Thursday with a 71-65 overtime win at Indiana. The Spartans started off the game fast, as junior center Allyssa DeHaan angled the opening tip toward a wide open redshirt junior forward Aisha Jefferson who ran the ball down the court for a layup.

The MSU women’s basketball team took a big hit Friday when sophomore guard Brittney Thomas went down for the season, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, in her left knee, head coach Suzy Merchant announced.

MSU closing in on Big Ten lead after 52-46 victory

The MSU women’s basketball team’s 52-46 win over No. 14 Ohio State was the battle it was built up to be. A match between the top two teams in the Big Ten, the Spartans led the entire game, but never by more than six on their way to a win that moves them within a half-game of first place in the Big Ten.

Johnson providing spark, making impact

Since entering the starting lineup five games ago, redshirt freshman forward Lykendra Johnson has proven extremely effective for the MSU women’s basketball team, using her size and athleticism to bother the other team defensively on the wing.

Spartans edge past Boilermakers

The MSU women’s basketball team shut down the Boilermakers Monday night at Breslin Center. Now 6-7 in the Big Ten, the Spartans clinched the 56-54 victory in the closing seconds of the game thanks to senior guard Courtney Davidson who scored five of the last seven Spartan points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Sooners' second-half surge defeats women's basketball team

The MSU women’s basketball team held on until the end, when Oklahoma clinched the win 66-55. After claiming the lead for good just under three minutes left in the game, the Sooners handed the Spartans their first home loss of the season. Oklahoma point guard Jenna Plumley sunk the 3-point game-winner with 2:42 left on the clock to start the 10-2 Sooner run.

Women's basketball beats Jaguars

The MSU women’s basketball team came out and dominated visiting IUPUI from the opening tip Friday night, defeating the Jaguars 65-35 in the first round of the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament at the Breslin Center.
