COLUMN: It's time for Dantonio to shake things up for MSU football

For all intents and purposes, let’s say MSU beats Rutgers next Saturday. Then we can assume an Ohio State team that just manhandled No. 10 Nebraska embarrasses the Spartans in East Lansing and MSU proceeds to fall to No. 12 Penn State to end the season. That would mean MSU football finishes the season 3-9 with one Big Ten win just a year removed from a College Football Playoff appearance.

In a tied game, it's the most mortifying situation for a defender in soccer — a wide open net. For junior defender Jimmy Fiscus, the open net just so happened to appear on the attacking end, but that didn't make the situation any less frightening.

Multiple players on men's soccer team given honors by Big Ten

No. 15 MSU Men’s Soccer had eight honorees when the Big Ten announced their postseason awards on Friday according to a press release from the team. Sophomore forward, Ryan Sierakowski was named to the first-team All-Big Ten.

Sophomore cornerback Vayante Copeland sustains season-ending injury

According to the Detroit Free Press, MSU sophomore cornerback Vayante Copeland suffered a broken foot and will be out for the rest of the season, Mark Dantonio told reporters during his weekly teleconference.

During the week’s practice leading up to the MSU hockey team’s matchup against the Michigan Tech Huskies, it was without one key defenseman — redshirt-freshman Jerad Rosburg. Rosburg would be out with an upper-body injury, leading to a shift in the Spartans’ lineup come puck drop Friday and Saturday evening.

MSU men's soccer had the higher number in the standings, but Penn State had the number of MSU prior to the match following a 1-0 double overtime win in the teams' only encounters previously in the season.

The MSU football team came into Memorial Stadium to face Illinois still without a Big Ten win in the first weekend of November, something unheard of in the Dantonio era of Spartan football. They left Champaign, Ill still winless in conference play –– shooting themselves in the foot once again.

HALFTIME: MSU trails Illinois 7-6 despite defensive performance

The MSU football team (2-6, 0-5 Big Ten) traveled to Champaign, Ill. to battle the Illinois Fighting Illini (2-6, 1-4). The Spartans are still in search of their first conference win, and despite coming into the game with some confidence, trail the Illini 7-6 at the break. Illinois was able to get on the scoreboard with just 14 seconds left in the half following an 11-play, 73 yard drive capped off by a 19-yard touchdown run from Kendrick Foster. MSU had two drives successful scoring drives in the first half, but couldn’t find their way to the end zone.

The MSU women’s basketball team is only days away from their first exhibition game against Northwood University. Late Friday evening, the team announced in a press release junior guard Morgan Green has been dismissed from the team.
