FINAL: MSU softball dismantles Maryland in series opener, 11-3

When it rains it pours. On a dreary and rainy Friday afternoon, the MSU softball team faced the University of Maryland to open up a three-game series. Tied 3-3 to begin the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans scored eight unanswered runs to beat the Terrapins 11-3 in six innings. Pinch-hitter Katelyn Hendershott brought home a run on a fielder’s choice as junior shortstop McKenzie Long scored to end the game in the sixth. In two at-bats, junior centerfielder Lea Foerster recorded two hits and two runs in the win. Leftfielder Ebonee Echols registered three runs and one hit in four at-bats.

MSU baseball, Hughes looking toward Big Ten play as season heats up

Coming off a 3-2 loss to Western Michigan on Tuesday, the MSU baseball team currently sits at 15-6 on the season. Junior outfielder Brandon Hughes, who hit four home runs in the Spartans’ three-game series sweep of Illinois last weekend, including three in the third game of the series, was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week and also a USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week as a result of his dominant performance.
