MSU football experiences slight schedule changes for years ahead

MSU football will kick off their 2019 season on Aug. 31, when the Spartans host the University of Tulsa, FBSSchedules.com reported Wednesday. With the Spartans' addition of the Golden Hurricanes, their 2019 schedule is now tentatively completed. According to FBSchedules.com, the Golden Hurricanes will receive a $1.2 million guarantee for their participation in the game in what will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Spartans are also slated to face Western Michigan and Arizona State at home in 2019. In conference play, MSU will host Indiana, Penn State, Illinois and Maryland and will go on the road to play Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Rutgers. This marks the second scheduling adjustment within the last week as the Spartans' 2017 matchup against Northwestern was moved back from Oct.

MSU baseball struggles against Eastern Michigan, dropping its fifth straight

Almost everything was going smoothly for MSU baseball, at least for the first 20 games of the season. The Spartans came out of the gates 15-5 and were riding a high after sweeping Big Ten foe Illinois. There, the bats exploded to the tune of 41 runs over the three-game series.

MSU softball concluded its first home series of the season as the Spartans faced Maryland Sunday afternoon. Third baseman Kaitlyn Eveland recorded two runs and a hit in one at-bat as the Spartans won and swept the Terrapins, 6-2.

After getting rained out on Friday, the MSU baseball team returned to McLane Baseball Stadium on Saturday with a doubleheader planned with the University of Minnesota to kick off the home leg of conference play.

MSU softball shuts Maryland out, wins third straight, 2-0

MSU softball edged out Maryland in the second game in a three-game series on fan appreciation day at Secchia Stadium, 2-0. The win came in a contrasting fashion from MSU's 8-3 win in game one, with the Spartans scoring two runs this time in a shutout win.

Amid investigations, MSU football hosts annual Green and White scrimmage

It was a familiar sight as fans trickled into Spartan Stadium for MSU football's annual spring scrimmage. In a modified version, the Green team played offense while the White team represented the defense.

MSU commit Jaren Jackson Jr. wins Dick's High School National Championship

MSU commit Jaren Jackson Jr. and MSU hopeful recruit Brian “Tugs” Bowen raised their newest piece of hardware Saturday afternoon on ESPN, the Dick’s High School National Championship. Both athletes are five-star recruits that play for La Lumiere in La Porte, Ind., the only school with two McDonald’s All-Americans on the roster, Jackson and Bowen.

FINAL: MSU softball dismantles Maryland in series opener, 11-3

When it rains it pours. On a dreary and rainy Friday afternoon, the MSU softball team faced the University of Maryland to open up a three-game series. Tied 3-3 to begin the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans scored eight unanswered runs to beat the Terrapins 11-3 in six innings. Pinch-hitter Katelyn Hendershott brought home a run on a fielder’s choice as junior shortstop McKenzie Long scored to end the game in the sixth. In two at-bats, junior centerfielder Lea Foerster recorded two hits and two runs in the win. Leftfielder Ebonee Echols registered three runs and one hit in four at-bats.

MSU baseball series opener against Minnesota postponed due to weather

The Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday after Friday's game was postponed due to "inclement weather and wet field conditions," according to a release by MSU Athletics. MSU was scheduled to play the Univesity of Minnesota Golden Gophers at 3:05 p.m.

MSU basketball ranked No. 13 all-time by Associated Poll

After 31 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Final Four berths and two national championships, MSU men's basketball was ranked the No. 13 all-time best basketball program, the Associated Press announced in its All-Time Top 100 list Wednesday.
