In just about one month I will have completed my first year of living off campus, after spending two years in the dorm.Living with four other roommates has been both fun and stressful, but I am lucky enough to be living with the same friends next year.
There is a silent war being fought on the trunks of the cars of our nation, and the fish annoy me. It began with an innocent proclamation of Christian faith: small, plastic silver fish.
At a school with 43,000 other students, each of us enters as just another number. If a student doesn’t make connections and feel comfortable, he or she will get left behind while the university moves on about its business. Many minority students are finding this to be the case. The Detroit News recently published a study of seven Michigan universities.

More than 3 million Mexicans now live in the United States illegally. This is a problem, but it doesn’t have to be under President Bush’s new plan. The president’s plan involves giving permanent legal residency to those Mexican immigrants currently residing in the country. Most likely, immigrants would be considered for legal residency based upon family ties and the amount of time they have lived in the United States. The plan will have to face Congress before taking effect and influential Republicans in the House and Senate aren’t thrilled about the idea.
It’s been nine months since we elected a president. It’s been seven months since we decided who should be president.

During the past few days, I have been quietly listening to many of my fellow students’ complaints regarding MSU’s recent decision to increase tuition rates by 8.9 percent.
The Olympic Games are supposed to support competition and cooperation. Now though, the Olympics are influenced by commercialism and politics, skewing the intended spirit of the games. This is made evident by the International Olympic Committee’s choice of Beijing as the host of the 2008 Summer Olympics. The decision was made Thursday; Beijing won in a landslide vote.
The bill to lift the cap on charter schools will soon come up in the state House for a vote. I oppose lifting the cap on charter schools.
With the economy slowing down, the number of job offers for graduating seniors (even in engineering) is limited, which means money will not be as plentiful as when times are better.
If you turn on your television today, you’ll find much more violence, sexual innuendo and foul language than in past years - stuff you might not want your kids to watch.
Belfast, Northern Ireland, isn’t a typical tourist destination, but I had a great time visiting there last summer.
