The primary election for the East Lansing City Council is Tuesday and MSU students spending the summer in town should head to the polls to be heard. East Lansing was built around the university, so the city’s essence is college students.

I’ve lived in East Lansing for the last 13 years. It’s 15 years altogether because of the two years my family lived on Cambria Drive between overseas teaching positions.On Saturday, I spent the entire day wandering around campus and downtown East Lansing.
Since November, the whole country has been pushing for election reform. Finally, a commission led by former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter has come to the rescue. It has set out a number of ideas, a big step toward improving the election process in the United States.

Public land needs to be protected in the interest of public enjoyment, and South Fox Island is no exception. The island’s territory is split between the State of Michigan and David Johnson, a land developer and 1971 MSU graduate. Johnson’s land, which is interspersed with state land, forms a checkerboard pattern across the Lake Michigan island.
Rishi Kundi recently wrote a piece (“Faith without thought is no faith at all,” SN 7/19) about the continuing battle between creationism and evolution which has been in existence since the Age of Enlightenment in the West (Darwin developed notions which had been brewing for some time). After one studies Eastern philosophy a bit, or the teachings of Plato, this topic becomes rather trite and mundane.
I have been an employee at MSU for 12 years and I am used to the construction during the summer, but finding a way to get to work and home from work has always been a challenge. Coming in from the southwest has presented a special challenge year.
