Welcome action

Campus’ silence was suddenly broken last week as minivans loaded with futons, mini-refrigerators and computers flooded into campus, clogging roadways as they headed to unload their precious cargoes. And while the influx of students back to campus ends the summertime splendor of short lines at night hot spots and nearly non-existent traffic, it’s a welcome sign to a new school year. The puzzling fact is most students are ready to be back to East Lansing - well, at least we are.

Since graduating from MSU, I have always let everyone know how proud I was to be a Spartan. That is, until the administration provided freshman tight end Eric Knott a full-ride scholarship.I have never been more ashamed to say that I graduated from MSU than I am now.

Eric Knott had better thank his lucky stars he can catch a football. If he couldn’t, he’d most likely be in prison right now, possibly for the rest of his life. Last June, Knott pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and served 30 days in jail for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old Detroit girl in July 1999.

Students need to make voices heard

After reading the article on moving the primaries in East Lansing from August to September (“August primary irks some,” SN 8/9) I was reminded of a similar issue back in fall 1994, when activists tried to push a vote into the fall months to increase the voting power of students.
