Picking sides in war on terrorism a matter of perspective
God Bless America is fine. But when will we say, God bless the world, immediately after?

Although the University of Michigans graduate student union held a one-day walkout Monday, MSUs Graduate Employees Union should not follow suit.
Rarely do I feel it necessary to respond publicly to the opinions of others, but Rebecca Daneffs letter (Honors College Ball not worth coverage, SN 2/28) is so outrageous that I feel I must. As a former honors college student at my previous institution, I take personal exception to Daneffs labeling of all Honors College students as repressed or given a newfound freedom. For anyone who knows me, those are the last words that will come to mind.
On Monday, I decided to support the Graduate Employees Union by not going to class. But unlike many students who took this opportunity to skip class, I am writing this letter to The State News to show my support for the teaching assistants of MSU.
Blame prohibition of drugs for the reason there will be no funding increase for MSU next year. Since three-fourths of felony crime touches the war on drugs, imagine what a peace dividend there would be if we ended prohibition.
If university apartment residents want to better their living conditions, the University Apartments Council of Residents is their best avenue.
I am writing about Drew Harmons view on the movie Queen of the Damned (Damned is goth at its worst, SN 2/25). His review was not about the movie itself.
Im pleased to see that the current State News editorial board feels the opinion page shouldnt be used to foment hatred and intolerance (Moral choice, SN 3/1). I wish previous editorial boards had realized that publishing opinion columns and letters expressing negative beliefs about homosexual people is exactly the same kind of incitement to hatred and intolerance.
I was happy to see The State News is covering Ray Ziarno, the Green Party candidate for secretary of state (Secretary of State race up for grabs, SN 2/27). Its good to see The State News covering more than the two major parties.
There are few things in this world funnier than people who try to tear apart something they dont understand (Damned is goth at its worst, SN 2/25). I do not feel it is appropriate to generalize a group of people as clowns or imply that all goth kids are the same.
ASMSU is asking for more money out of students pockets, but the organization isnt providing enough information to sell its plan to the undergraduate population. The organization wants student taxpayers to spend an extra $3 per semester on its services, upping its semesterly per student revenue from $13 to $16.
Your editorial on the publication of the hateful column in Wayne State Universitys student newspaper was very well done (Moral choice, SN 3/1). It is always important to remind people that along with rights come responsibilities.
Ive never been a very good politician. When I was younger I could blame my lack of politicking skills on my inability to do anything that required coordination - or maybe it was the glasses and braces.
This is a response to Rebecca Daneffs letter (Honors College Ball not worth coverage, SN 2/28). I graduated from MSU with a degree in chemistry and was a student in the Honors College.
By TARA MAY The State News Trust is an issue at the heart of most relationships. Especially friendships - they arent family we get stuck with and make the most of.
The bill that would ban pop machines from all elementary and middle schools is said to be pushed for health reasons in the legislation held by state Rep.
I thought I had heard it all as far as ridiculous letters to The State News this year, but - as usual - I was wrong.
I agree it is unwise for MSU students to hurt themselves in raising awareness for the Graduate Employees Union (Strike out, SN 2/27). Im disappointed with the union; it seems very selfish they havent more firmly denounced this student strike.
Newspapers across the United States have a constitutional right to publish just about whatever they choose.
As a repressed member of the Honors College, a resident of the honors floor in Mason Hall and a member of a sorority, I feel the need to respond to Rebecca Daneffs letter Honors College Ball not worth coverage, (SN 2/28). One of the main purposes of The State News is to report on activities that take place on the MSU campus and include its students.
