Diverse faculty
Though Spartans usually have a lot to be proud of, MSUs low percentage of tenured minority faculty is not one part of that group.

Its sad that during the same week MSU greeks across campus are celebrating the good deeds they do for the Spartan community, the disgraceful actions of one fraternity have given the entire greek system a black eye. Several members of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity wore pink, sleeveless T-shirts that had phrases such as I like little boys, Capt.
I would like to agree with Andrew Banyais column, Students shouldnt be charged for death (SN 4/9). I think Banyai brings up some excellent points.
Its too early to tell if sending the message to drink responsibly has been working enough to lower alcohol-related accidents, but its also too soon to give up trying to promote it. A study released Tuesday by the Task Force on College Drinking, showed 1,400 college students are killed each year in alcohol-related accidents.
Love him or hate him, President Bush has been admirably measured in his response to terror. He waited until he had evidence of Osama bin Ladens culpability to invade Afghanistan.
I would like to express my extreme disappointment in The State News biased portrayal of the greek system in the article T-shirts prompt greek action (SN 4/10). What does The State News have against greeks?
In Wednesdays article T-shirts prompt greek action (SN 4/10), Murat Bashelvaci is paraphrased as saying fraternity members didnt want to harm anyone. Let me get this straight.
While it sometimes can seem only bad things can come from bad situations, former Lansing Councilmember Louis Adado did a good thing Monday night by resigning from his leadership position.Adados decision came on the heels of accusations from two city council staff members, who claim he sexually harassed them.
As his term as athletics director comes to a close, it is time for MSU to honor and recognize the service Clarence Underwood has provided for us all.
I am writing in response to Jennifer Waldron and Brenda Fites letter to the editor (Lack of judgment used in running ad, SN 4/5). Playboy magazine is not out to injure or defame anyone.
Its been a long road. Ive stumbled to early morning classes for five years, pretended to take notes, kept from nodding off and ultimately somehow earned adequate grades. Now, nearly half a decade after beginning a collegiate career I sincerely enjoyed, the time is swiftly approaching when Im being forced to realize that perhaps, at age 23, its time to grow up. Graduation is in May.
In his column, Andrew Banyai does have a good point in that its very comfortable to have someone to blame (Students shouldnt be charged for death, SN 4/9). But he misses the point that these people did break the law.
In response to Rishi Kundis column Making sense of Middle East violence is impossible (SN 4/4). He states, I, and most likely all of you, are totally in the dark about events across the world, then decides to spit out his opinion anyway.
Students living in residence halls next year may have to pay a little more for free Ethernet connections, community bathrooms and daily meals courtesy of the cafeteria, but they shouldnt complain much.On Friday, the MSU Board of Trustees is expected to raise the cost of living in the residence halls for the 11th straight year.
This inquisition must be stopped. Police and Ingham County prosecutors hope dragging five MSU students through criminal court will help teach other students about the dangers of excessive drinking.
In response to Craig Sopos letter, City government not college-oriented (SN 4/5), I agree with him on Mayor Pro Tem Sam Singhs comments regarding the citys priorities with students.
Its a nice thought for the ASMSU Student Assembly to approve pay for a ropes challenge course on campus.
I was saddened to read the State News editorial Housing help (SN 4/4). It seriously misinterprets the citys intent for some preliminary discussion of a possible rental buyback program. If such a program were to be put in place, it would be intended to address vacancies left in our high rental neighborhoods because students have moved to new luxury apartments to the north of East Lansing in Bath Township.
Kudos to MSU leaders for moving forward with plans to construct two rail underpasses on Farm Lane. It is a project that is long overdue and will help make foot, bicycle and automobile traffic in the area more safe and swift. Although construction is not expected to begin until at least 2005, the two underpasses would be erected between Mount Hope and Trowbridge roads and could cost as much as $25 million. MSU President M.
I have read Rishi Kundis columns for the past year and every time I am amazed by his ability to offer insight into current events while twisting in a little humor so it is accessible to all who read.
